Toy Group

Toy dogs are another type of dog breed that is very popular all around the world today. Even though they are very small, they are strong as well and tough. There any many types of Toy dog breeds. For example, Yorkshire terrier and Shih-Tzu. These types of dogs are very long lived with a life expectancy of about 15 years. It was known that these Toy dogs have been around for thousands of years. They are also well known and popular companion and they are a type of a watch dog for the royalty or the politicians. Before Toy dogs were used to be owned by most of the wealthy family.

Toy dogs are good with children as well if they have been raised along with children. They will socialize and disguise themselves as small puppies. However, without the same treatment and the proper socialization they have, they can get very aggressive and agitated. Because they are small, they are easier exposed to injuries when in accidents. These small Toy dogs require lots of love from their owner because they tend to be around humans majority of the time. Toy Dogs are smart, intelligent and are fast learners

Breeds Descriptions

There's also another set of breed grouping, which personally, we think is easier to understand than the groupings above.

They are Toy, Terrier, Herding, Hound, Working, Sporting, and Non-Sporting Dogs.

Terrier Group

Terrier Dogs range in many sizes and are divided into four groups: the Working Terrier, the Toy Terrier, the Bull Terrier and the Companion Terrier. They are all very playful and are mostly hard working types of dogs. They are easy to train and are fast learners to pick up new tricks. Terrier dogs make a very good watch dog and parents don’t need to worry about their children because they get along very well with children if they’ve been treated properly. These types of dogs are always energetic. In order to have this breed, the owner must have space for the dog to play around because they like to dig. When they come back inside their homes, they can tend to be very lazy. Terrier dogs are very long lived and have a life span of about 15 to 18 years of age.

Terriers need a lot of training because they are known well to
be able to intently focus on their job. Since they are very active, they sometimes need long walks each day. Owners should have a lot of time with these types of breeds because they do need a lot of taking care of. Furthermore, if they’re easily trained they can help with the chores around the household.

Herding Group

Herding dogs are the types of dogs that depict movement very quickly. This type of dogs can be seen herding the sheep back into the cattle. They are very responsive to training. Some of the known herding dogs could be the cattle dogs or sheepdogs. They have a very sharp and aggressive barking, but are a very intelligent group of canines. Some of the types of this dog breed include the German shepherd dog and the Border collies.

These types of dogs require owners that will constantly train them and give them rewards when they have completed their task. Now, these herding dogs are rarely used as herding dogs but more of a companion dog.

Hound Group

Hound Dogs are most well known for hunting. They have either a strong sense of smell or excellent sight. They are required to chase as well. Sometimes these hound dogs seems to be lonely and sad.

They tend to howl and be mournful at times as well. Most of the owners who own this type of dogs have trained them to be quiet. They are
very friendly and are patient with children. Anyhow, these types of dogs have been known as the oldest type of dog.

Working Group

These dogs are mostly intelligent but headstrong. They tend to be police dogs, sled dogs and rescue dogs. They are large and powerful dogs. They perform a lot of working including herding, pulling, hunting, and rescuing. Working dogs tend to be very possessive of their owners. They can be viewed as dogs that have a lot of courage and strength.

They range from many sizes but are mostly independent and strong. They are required to control and have to be trained properly by their owner. Their life span is quite long and is up to ten years or even longer.

Sporting Group

The sporting group contains the most popular breeds: including pointers, setters, retrievers and spaniels. The most popular ones are the Labrador retriever and the Golden Retriever.

Their characteristics are
alert, active and intelligent. Sporting dogs have historically been used by hunters to locate, flush or retrieve game from land or water. Many sporting dogs are still used as hunting companions today. They are also great family dogs.

Non-Sporting Group

They have individual skills and own purpose. They are pampered but yet are surprisingly are active companions.  These types of dogs are a diverse group and do not fit with any specified criteria of any other breed groups. Some might not perform the tasks that they were originally bred for. They vary in shapes, size, and temperament.
